1st Grade Snow Globe Perspectives

In 1st grade GT, the students watched a short film called “Bumbleville”, and read a story called, “The Snow Globe Family”.  They are now trying to understand the perspective of being inside a snow globe.  To help boost their imaginations, we used an iPad app called, “iSnowdome” today in order to put their own pictures inside a snow globe.  Next week, they will be brainstorming, and starting to write their snow globe descriptions.

5th Grade Genius Hour

5th grade GT students are emulating Google’s “20% Time” by incorporating an hour of exploration and research into each GT day.  During this time, they can work on projects of their choice, and learn about anything that interests them.  When they complete their projects, they present them to the class, and begin a new project.  So far, we have had presentations on: simulations, The Bermuda Triangle, video game design, and shelters.  Some upcoming ones are:  wind-up cars, the Philippines, and tetrahedra.  Below are some pictures of the 5th graders at work.

4th Grade Math Museums

4th Grade GT has been studying mathematical masterpieces.  Inspired by the recent opening of the Museum of Mathematics in New York, I asked the students to design their own math museums using their imagination and what we have learned so far this year.  Here are some photos of the students working on this assignment.  You can also view an example of one student’s map, although they have not finished them, yet.

3rd Grade Research Projects

The 3rd grade students are busy working on their research projects.  Each group is finding information about one of the senses.  They are just finishing up their note-taking, and will soon begin their Powerpoint presentations summarizing what they learned.  We hope to post the presentations on our blog as soon as they are finished.
