Music in Our Schools Month!

Canyon Ridge Celebrates “Music in Our Schools Month!”

Dear Parents,

We have chosen to take part in celebrating this exciting month by sharing with you some of the research findings about how music can affect our students, and by passing on some additional enrichment ideas. Click this link for great music ideas to try at home as a family: MIOSM_TicTacToe!  You’ll be surprised how much music is in our everyday life!

Happy Music in Our Schools Month!
- Mrs. Roeber and Mrs. Taguiam

Why Music in School?

  • Music is science: It is exact and specific.
  • Music is mathematical: It is rhythmically based on fractions which must be calculated instantaneously.
  • Music is a foreign language: Most of the terms are in Italian, German or French.
  • Music is history: It reflects the environment and times it was written in.
  • Music is physical education:  It requires fantastic coordination.
  • Music is all these things, but most of all, music is art. It allows humans to take these techniques and use them to create emotion.
There is ongoing research that indicates we can expand our learning capacity in every subject by studying music. Those
who participate in music have significantly high math and science scores.
