DS in the Classroom?

Today the 3rd graders brought their DS game systems to class…for educational purposes.  😉  We used the pictochat feature to help each other solve and check their Algebra problems.  What a fun change!  Can you think of other academic uses for technology “toys”?  Can you think of reasons we should allow students to use their smart phones, ipods, ipads, and game systems at school?  What would the postives and negatives be?

  1. Dear Third Grade,
Very cool! I love the close ups of your screens. I never knew that DS game systems had a chat feature. In high school, the students use smart phones to look up information and take pictures of displays and models. How could we use smart phones in elementary school?

  2. WOW Third Grade
I think this is amazing. What a great way to bring technology into your classroom through your DS. I will bet you only thought it was good fro games. Technology is so open ended. The possibilities are endless.

Can you both work on the problem at the same time on 2 different DS’

  3. Mrs. Davis,

The kids can be across the room from each other, chatting and sharing their math problems. So, they can work on the same problem at the same time and send their thoughts to each other. It was really neat.

  4. Wow! I love to see you using technology in such a useful way. As you explore ways to use technology, remember there is value in communicating the old fashion way – looking at eachother, making eye contact and having a conversation :). Happy exploring!
