Fiction vs. Non-Fiction
November3
All week long we have been reading stories and placing the stories into one of two categories: fiction and non-fiction. Fiction books are “fake” or fantasy. Non-fiction books are books that are “not fake” or real. Non-fiction books are trying to teach us about a topic.
A book about the different types of frogs that live in the rain forest would be non-fiction. A book about singing and dancing frogs in little top hats that live in the rain forest would be fiction. Take some time to read your library books this week and decide if they are fiction or non-fiction. Also, explain how you know that the book is either fiction or non-fiction. I would love to hear your thoughts!

I read Mercy Watson Fights Crime by Kate DiCamillo and Where is the Cake? by T.T Khing.
They are both fiction. Dogs cannot make a cake. A Dinosaur cannot eat cake and have a balloon.
Pigs cannot sleep in beds in a house and catch a thief. Pigs cannot be on the newspaper.
Great job Ty!
I read, Who Will Help Santa This Year? and Lizard Walinsky. They are both fiction. Dinosaurs can’t help Santa because they don’t exist. Neither do fairies. Lizard Walinsky could be non-fiction because it is about kids and their toys and insects, but I think it is a story just for fun.
Great thinking!
I read Maisey Goes To The Garden and Air Show. Maisy Goes To The Garden is fiction. It is fiction because animals don’t talk, have clothes, or go to the museum. Air Show could non-fiction because there are really air shows, and people do fly airplanes, and I have seen the Blue Angels fly before too.
Great job Enrique
