This week we took our second field trip to the symphony and had a great time. The students enjoyed the music and fun information shared with us during the awesome performance. We are grateful for the opportunity to travel to Trinity University to see the symphony!

We are settled into our new classroom at our new campus! We have been doing lots of important learning. On Friday we will have reading and math tests over what we have learned these last two weeks.

I hope you enjoyed this beautiful Monday off, celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Inauguration Day.

Welcome back to school, Lions!

We had a great first week back. We explored our new school and practiced using our great new technology. The students had fun sharing news about their winter breaks with each other. This week we learned about polygons, text structures, and landforms. Of course, we have lots more learning to do this week, so see you tomorrow!

Packing Up!

It’s finally moving time! This week we are packing up and getting ready to move over to our new campus. It’s going to be a fun, exciting, and busy week. We have lots of boxes and lots of learning materials to fill them with.

We also have our class holiday celebration on Friday, December 21. Our party will be from 11-11:45 am. Parents are invited. If you are coming, please let us know ahead of time so your visitor badge can be printed before you get here. This will help save time when all the parents are arriving. Parents are welcome to sign your student out when you leave after the party and start your break a little early!

Great Students!

This week our students were put on stage and we got to see their greatness. On Thursday, the choir and strings students held a winter holiday concert. All of the students did a wonderful job. They performed songs in multiple languages from different cultures.  It was so fun to watch!!

On Friday we took a field trip to Canyon Ridge Elementary to spend the day with Las Lomas kindergarten-3rd grade students. It was the first time we were all together in one place at one time. We did a very powerful singing of our school song. Our class paired up with a 2nd grade class to make our Ornaments for the Planet. Each of our students found a 2nd grade buddy to work with and help with the ornament making. Our students worked so well with their younger buddies. They were great role models and I was very proud of them!! The students made very creative ornaments that will help raise money that will go towards helping families get out of poverty all over the world. It was inspiring to see our students so dedicated to such a wonderful cause in helping other people!!! Keep up the good work 5th graders!!

I am so proud of our students! Everyone is working hard during this busy time of year.

This week we are going to start studying drama in Reading. We will continue to learn about fractions in Math. We are going to begin learning about weather in Science–what an appropriate topic as the weather starts turning colder! The 5th grade teachers have some great lessons planned to explore these exciting topics.

On Friday we will take a field trip to Canyon Ridge Elementary to work with other Las Lomas students to make ornaments. Here is some info about what we will be doing:

In reading, we will be studying biographies and autobiographies. In science, we will continue to study light. This week we will be dissecting a cow eyeball to learn how the eyes use light to see!

Can’t wait to see all of our hard working students back at learning tomorrow!

Thanks to all the students and parents that attended and helped out at Science Night. It was a great success and everyone had fun! It was so neat to see our 5th graders teaching our stations to the younger children.

This week is the last week until Thanksgiving break, so it’s a great time to give thanks. I’m thankful for our awesome 5th graders! They each bring something special to our class and make everyday an exciting adventure in the classroom.
