Hey Lions! By now, all the students and teachers are back in the routine of school. That’s good because in 5th grade we have LOTS of learning to do. We have already learned about place value in math, text features in reading, and matter in science. Now we are learning about multiplication in math, author’s purpose in reading, and energy in science. We have been doing many fun science experiments in our science lab to help students understand the concepts we are learning about.
Students, don’t forget to read 20 minutes each night and record it on your reading log. Get your parent to sign it and bring it on Friday. The more you practice reading, the better you will get at it!
Our first Las Lomas Fall Festival is coming up on October 18th. Stay tuned for more updates and photos of a very special scarecrow!
Welcome back, Lions!! I hope you had a great summer and are refreshed and ready to come back to school. Your teachers have been working hard at school to have all your classrooms ready. This year I will be co-teaching in Ms. Moczygemba’s and Mrs. Davis’s classrooms. I am excited to be teaching our new 5th graders! Get ready for another adventurous year at Las Lomas Elementary…See you on August 22nd!
February 26-28th will be early release days. On these days, we will be doing parent/teacher conferences. Our students will be leading the conferences, and it is very exciting to see them taking ownership of their learning. Stay tuned for sign up information this week!
Howdy, Lions! Friday, February 15th, is NEISD Rodeo Day. Students, get excited and wear your rodeo apparel. Rodeo attire will count towards our spirit count this Friday. School shirts still count too! I can’t wait to see all of our students in their rodeo clothes.
See you on Monday!
On Friday, February 1st, we will take our class picture. Be ready to smile!

This week we took our second field trip to the symphony and had a great time. The students enjoyed the music and fun information shared with us during the awesome performance. We are grateful for the opportunity to travel to Trinity University to see the symphony!
We are settled into our new classroom at our new campus! We have been doing lots of important learning. On Friday we will have reading and math tests over what we have learned these last two weeks.

Welcome back to school, Lions!
We had a great first week back. We explored our new school and practiced using our great new technology. The students had fun sharing news about their winter breaks with each other. This week we learned about polygons, text structures, and landforms. Of course, we have lots more learning to do this week, so see you tomorrow!
It’s finally moving time! This week we are packing up and getting ready to move over to our new campus. It’s going to be a fun, exciting, and busy week. We have lots of boxes and lots of learning materials to fill them with.
We also have our class holiday celebration on Friday, December 21. Our party will be from 11-11:45 am. Parents are invited. If you are coming, please let us know ahead of time so your visitor badge can be printed before you get here. This will help save time when all the parents are arriving. Parents are welcome to sign your student out when you leave after the party and start your break a little early!
This week our students were put on stage and we got to see their greatness. On Thursday, the choir and strings students held a winter holiday concert. All of the students did a wonderful job. They performed songs in multiple languages from different cultures. It was so fun to watch!!
On Friday we took a field trip to Canyon Ridge Elementary to spend the day with Las Lomas kindergarten-3rd grade students. It was the first time we were all together in one place at one time. We did a very powerful singing of our school song. Our class paired up with a 2nd grade class to make our Ornaments for the Planet. Each of our students found a 2nd grade buddy to work with and help with the ornament making. Our students worked so well with their younger buddies. They were great role models and I was very proud of them!! The students made very creative ornaments that will help raise money that will go towards helping families get out of poverty all over the world. It was inspiring to see our students so dedicated to such a wonderful cause in helping other people!!! Keep up the good work 5th graders!!
I am so proud of our students! Everyone is working hard during this busy time of year.
This week we are going to start studying drama in Reading. We will continue to learn about fractions in Math. We are going to begin learning about weather in Science–what an appropriate topic as the weather starts turning colder! The 5th grade teachers have some great lessons planned to explore these exciting topics.
On Friday we will take a field trip to Canyon Ridge Elementary to work with other Las Lomas students to make ornaments. Here is some info about what we will be doing:
