Inferring/Predicting

Your response letter should always begin with what the title of your current book is, as well as the author’s name.  Give a brief idea of what is going on in your book in this first paragraph, but remember NO SPOILERS!  Your second paragraph should address one or more of the following thinking stems that help you be an active reader:

Inferring/Predicting:
1.  I think…
2.  Maybe this means…
3.  This allows me to assume…
4.  I predict______________ because…

Example Below:
Hello class,
This month I am reading, Heist Society, a mystery novel by Ally Carter.  This is the first book in a series about a girl who comes from a family of professional thieves.  They don’t steal just anything, though.  They steal priceless art and antiques.  The main character, Katarina Bishop has just been kicked out of boarding school.  She stole the headmaster’s Porsche and parked it in the fountain of the school.  The problem was, even though she knew how to do all this without doing caught because of her life with a family of thieves, she didn’t; because she did not commit the crime.  She was framed.
I predict that Kat will go back to the life of crime in order to prove who framed her.  I think this, because I just finished the first chapter which ended with a cliffhanger.  She says her life at the school is over, but another voice says…”Actually, it’s just beginning.”  I look forward to reading the rest of this book to figure out the mystery.  I wonder who the voice is.  Is it the person who actually stole the Porsche? Is it a friend who is coming to help her figure out how to find the person who framed Kat?  I’m ready for the rest of this adventure!
Sincerely,
Student X
