3rd Period Non-Fiction: Ansel Adams: A Biography by Mary Street Alinder

Hello Class,

I recently started reading Ansel Adams: A Biography by Mary Street Alinder. This is a biography about a 20th century photographer named Ansel. Although he is most likely known for his black & white landscape photos of Yosemite National Park, he is also a winner of Presidential Medal of Freedom and is in the state of California’s Hall of Fame. Throughout his life, he traveled around California and many other states in the US and formed numerous photography groups including Group f/64.

The author made the topic interesting by having a close relationship with Ansel. During the last few years of his life, Mary Street Alinder was Ansel’s assistant and grew to know him almost as well as he knew himself. It was interesting to read a biography about someone in which the author actually had known very well. I love how in the biography, Alinder tells about all the events in Ansel’s life, but also about the time they got to share together.

Thanks for reading!

Kelly K.

I’ve wanted to be a photographer since I was very young, but this book definitely makes it more interesting! If I did become a photographer, I would most likely become a sports or nature photographer.
