6th Period Language. Almost home By Joan Bauer

Hey guys,

I’ve been reading a book named Almost Home by Joan Bauer, Which is about a twelve year old girl named Sugar ,(Sugar Mae Cole) That lives with her mother. They are not rich, nor wealthy; Meaning that Sugar grew up with limited stuff. Although they had the less than average money, She was always happy with her mom. Until they loose their house and are forced to move to Chicago, where they had to restart and rebuilt their life. Sugar only had her bestfriend Shush [shush being her rescue dog] After she is put into a foster shelter because of her moms consistent breakdowns. She stays on track of a good life by the help of Shush and her Teacher Mr. Bennett. Which inspires her to write down her feelings.

An interesting phrase I noticed is  “Homeless girl” on page 93 because sugar knows she is in a situation where she doesn’t have a home or parents, but she stays positive and doesnt pity herself. Although everyone else knows her as the “homeless girl”, she doesn’t let people’s words put her down.

I really recommend this book if you like nice inspirational books. It really makes you look a life in a different way and appreciate what you have.
