5th period acl languages-Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

Dear class,

The book I’m reading is Number The Stars by Lois Lowry. So far it’s about two girls and their families, Annemarie Johanson and Ellen Rosen. Ellen Rosen and her families are jews and the nazis are relocating all of the jews. The Rosen family leaves except for Ellen who stays behind pretends to be apart of the Johanson family so that she can be protected.

I like the way the author describes how Annemarie and Ellen felt so much fear while soldiers had just approached them on the street. It feels like you’re physically with them. Prodded is a new word for me. I think it means touched or poked aggressively because it says “He prodded the corner of her backpack with the stock of his rifle…What is in here?” (page 3).

Thanks for reading,

Chloe R.

I love reading about the Holocaust! I don’t know if this would be a spoiler but, was Annemarie ever found by the Nazis?

Yes they were found but not effected because even though Annemarie wasn’t a jew, her best friend Ellen was and was staying with her. Luckily they had a good cover up and the nazi’s soon left.
