7th Period Characters – Ungifted by Gordon Korman

Ungifted

Hello class,
As of right now I am reading Ungifted, ironically written by the very gifted Gordon Korman. This book centers around the troublemaking pre-teen Donovan Curtis. When Donovan accidentally ruins his schools brand new and very expensive gymnasium things start to go bad .The school’s  Superintend discovers what Donovan has done he becomes enraged and decides to expel Donovan. Yet when the superintendent writes down Donovan’s name to remind himself to punish Donovan a tragically dim witted secretary confuses it with the gifted list.  This sends Donovan to the Academy of Scholastic Distinction (ASD). At first Donovan is confused at why he’s at this school but soon he discovers it’s not as bad as it seems.
I really liked the character Noah. I thought he was great for the plot. He provided much needed comedic relief to the story. Along with this he also provides a relatable character. Noah faces issues like bad grades (or what he thinks are bad) and the struggle of being socially awkward. These issues let the reader relate and bond to Noah. These issues are also what makes the character seem real. This is why I liked the character Noah.
Thanks for reading,
Sloane W.
