Today we ended our 5 weeks study of shapes.  For the past 2 weeks we have been learning all about 3-D shapes and how they connect to 2-D shapes.  To conclude our unit we made some 3-D shapes using toothpicks, gumdrops and pretzel sticks.  The pretzel sticks liked to break in the gumdrops so we switched to toothpicks pretty quickly.  Here are some pictures of our creations.  We had such a good time!

Ornaments for The Planet

Filed under: Uncategorized — equerr at 2:26 pm on Wednesday, January 23, 2013

On December 7 we met with out book buddies from Ms. Morris-Duran’s class to make ornaments for the planet.

Ornaments For The Planet

Las Lomas Elementary, in partnership with Whole Foods Market, is excited to kick off the 6th annual Ornaments for the Planet. Inspired by the Nobel Winning work of Professor Muhammad Yunus and Grameen National Bank, Whole Foods Market established the Whole Planet Foundation to help tackle the problem of world hunger and poverty. Through the powerful work of micro-loans, women in under developed countries are able to qualify for small loans, usually less than $300, to create or expand a home-based business. These loans help families lift themselves out of poverty for generations to come.

Las Lomas Lions will have the opportunity to create handmade ornaments to sell for profit at Whole Foods Market as a 1st Friday event activity. Each ornament will be sold for $5.00. Pre-order forms will go out to families and parents to give the option of buying your child’s ornament. Ornaments will be on display for sale at both Quarry and Vineyard Whole Foods Market locations during the Month of December. http://www.wholeplanetfoundation.org/about.
