For the past 2 weeks we have been learning about poetry and practicing writing poems during writers workshop. Yesterday we published our poems by typing them on the computer and then today we illustrated them. We finished our project by taking pictures using the document camera. Take a look and enjoy!
Today we used a new app called Farmland to create a picture of a farm story. Then we uploaded it into Skitch and wrote number sentences to match our picture. Great Work!
On Monday and Tuesday we did some plant rotations. In the rotations we planted seeds, sorted leaves and plant cards, Used the app Skitch to label the parts of the plant and used the Smartboard to complete a Plant Activity. Here are some pictures!
This week we are talking about plant sizes. To end our discussion students created a collage using an app called PIC COLLAGE. Students saved pictures off the internet of different sizes of plants and then imported them into the app. Students also had to label their pictures (small, medium, large). Take a look at our final products! They did a great job!
Today we ended our 5 weeks study of shapes. For the past 2 weeks we have been learning all about 3-D shapes and how they connect to 2-D shapes. To conclude our unit we made some 3-D shapes using toothpicks, gumdrops and pretzel sticks. The pretzel sticks liked to break in the gumdrops so we switched to toothpicks pretty quickly. Here are some pictures of our creations. We had such a good time!
Our class raised $30 a lap for the fun run! Most of the kids ran 36 laps today, so we raised approximately $1000 for the school-just from our class alone! THAT’S AMAZING! The kids did a great job and were pretty tired from running after we were through…Here is a pic of us after the fun run!
Today we walked around our new school with the iPad’s and took pictures of things rocks are used for. Then we came back to the classroom and made a powerpoint. Check it out! How Rocks are Used PPT
Here are some pictures of our 100 day of school activities. We had such a great time!
For the past week we have been learning all about water. To end our unit we made oceans in a bottle today. We used water bottles, baby oil, sand and shells. Here are some pictures of our science experiment! We had so much fun!!
On December 7 we met with out book buddies from Ms. Morris-Duran’s class to make ornaments for the planet.
Ornaments For The Planet
Las Lomas Elementary, in partnership with Whole Foods Market, is excited to kick off the 6th annual Ornaments for the Planet. Inspired by the Nobel Winning work of Professor Muhammad Yunus and Grameen National Bank, Whole Foods Market established the Whole Planet Foundation to help tackle the problem of world hunger and poverty. Through the powerful work of micro-loans, women in under developed countries are able to qualify for small loans, usually less than $300, to create or expand a home-based business. These loans help families lift themselves out of poverty for generations to come.
Las Lomas Lions will have the opportunity to create handmade ornaments to sell for profit at Whole Foods Market as a 1st Friday event activity. Each ornament will be sold for $5.00. Pre-order forms will go out to families and parents to give the option of buying your child’s ornament. Ornaments will be on display for sale at both Quarry and Vineyard Whole Foods Market locations during the Month of December. http://www.wholeplanetfoundation.org/about.
