PARENTS: Here you will find information about what we are learning in the kindergarten G/T classes. /

5-26-16 – We have not had our last G/T class yet! It’s always a struggle with end-of-year field trips and activities to get in my time with these special students, but I hope to finish up with the kinder students on Wednesday. They will have their special slide show to share with you and you will be challenged to figure out the answers (see photo for some of our brainstorming after research)! It has been an awesome spring with these students and I look forward to working with them again next year! Parents, please check out summer learning opportunities here and here! The kids also love ThinkFun games, both on and offline, so check those out, too! Have a safe and happy summer!

4-8-16 What a lot of thinking we are doing in G/T class! In the last few weeks, we’ve continued practicing our logical and critical thinking skills, often using manipulatives such as foam shapes and teddy bear counters! We’ve also learned some advanced math concepts and skills, using number tiles in a variety of activities. The Math Rules lessons also keep us challenged! Literature has been fun, too! A is for Alice was the first of many alphabet books we will read, and all readings are followed by research or critical thinking activities. After reading Q is for Duck, an animal book that is also a guessing game, the students were challenged to come up with their own ideas. We used some animal books and the website Enchanted Learning to help us! We will attempt to create a slide show incorporating all of our ideas. We hope you enjoy the sample papers sent hone!

3-4-16 -We had a fabulous first week in kindergarten G/T class! We began by getting to know one another. After reading a book called A, My Name is Alice, we played a game with our own names and tested our memories. Then, we did a math problem-solving activity called “Find the X Tile” in which the students figure out a mystery number, given clues and number tiles to manipulate. The students were also introduced to a logic game called Chocolate Fix and a visual-spatial game called Kanoodle. We’re going to enjoy many mind-expanding activities together! I look forward to working with these kindergarten students!
