In GT we have learned about a mysterious ship called the Mary Celeste. It was first called the Amazon but was later renamed. It is a ship that set sail in November 1872. Its destination was Genoa, Italy. The boat’s captain was Benjamin Briggs, a brave man that overcame many arduous journeys. The ship was found abandoned about 400 miles east of the Azores in December of the same year it set sail. A few years later, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote a book about the mysterious ghost ship. This book stirred everyone’s interest and it then became one of the most popular mysteries of the sea.

    Theories

There are many theories about what happened to the crew of the Mary Celeste. Some people believe that the crew was abducted by aliens. Others prefer to believe that they were eaten by a sea monster from the bottom of the sea. A handful believes that they were attacked by pirates. They aren’t sure because some sources say there was no evidence of foul play or violence but others say there was some blood on the ship. One of the most popular theories is that the ship was sinking and everyone got off. The problem with that theory is that the ship was found floating with nothing wrong. Another possibility is that the crew took a dip in the ocean and were attacked by sharks. The last theory our class gathered is that all of the crew and passengers were swept overboard. It’s your choice to believe what you want!
